Squigglejones uncovered and a bit of news

By asingleblog

Everyone who knows about this blog has been asking who squiggle jones is. I didn’t.

I found this blog. www.squigglejones.wordpress.com We won’t know who squiggle jones is but his/her blog on 29 July, Dave Walker and others pursued and harrassed, is a good read.

Since I know little about blogging, maybe Squiggle will let me know how to do links to other posts.

About pensions  – for those who are working or who used to work in the bookshops – well my friend found that the CofE Pensions Board knew very little about what was going on with SSG. My friend was incandescent with rage. First of all he was questioned very carefully about the SSG situation. His was the very first enquiry into pensions.  He was told that the employer has to inform workers about the state of their pensions. My friend said that his last statement re pensions was in April 2005. Eventually he told the person he was talking to to download the bankruptcy stuff from ministryoftruth.

Said friend was told to expect a letter from the Pensions Board.

I must say I’m a bit mystified. I thought that the person he was talking to would just put a number into the computer and say, “this is what your employer has paid in and this is the amount you topped up.” How difficult can that be?

Anyone worried about pensions should ring 02078981800 and ask for Peter Dickinson.  Alternatively you could write to:

The Church of England Pensions Board

29 Great Smith Street

London

SW1P 3PS

My friend should not be the only person making inquiries.

Your friend is not the only person making enquiries. The best way to pursue this is by letter. I spoke to HMRC on Monday and they were helpful: the advice for tax and NI was to write to the PAYE office given on your tax coding letter, quoting your NI number and tax coding, explaining the situation (I gave the details of the attempted “bankruptcy” and the link to MinistryofTruth’s excellent blog for the documents) , and asking them to investigate on your behalf. Do the same with the Pensions Board- write in with the details and your pension reference and ask them to investigate.
HMRC were apologetic and said the process is not quick- but they will put an investigator on the case.
